Jack Of Hearts- It’s kind of an anthem to young girls out there about a guy – a specific kind of guy – that you want to be careful of. He’s the charming guy who’s not really so charming once you get to know him. He’s the bad boy who looks good. You want him – but at the end of the day, he’s no good for you at all. The song is saying, why settle for the Jack of Hearts when you can have the King? This is a true story in my life. Falling in love with the Jack changed my life and it’s the reason I wrote this song and others off the record. The interesting part is I really did see it coming, but I’m better off for experiencing what I did, because Falling in love is never a mistake. I know what I want in life. I hope all of you out there know what you are worth! We all deserve a king! Please share your Jack Of Hearts stories. Have you dated the Jack Of Hearts?

Why settle for the Jack Of Hearts?

Hey Sarah, this is a really cool idea. I'm sure a lot of people have stories that are a lot like your song, "Jack Of Hearts." That's what's so great about country music- that it's about real people, and stories that a lot of people can relate to. My story is no exception...

I met my Jack in college. He caught my eye one day on campus and even though I knew nothing about him, I wanted to know everything. I told my girlfriends about him, and we would refer to him as BB (Beautiful Boy) since I didn't know his name.

Our paths finally crossed for real... I was the manager for our ladies basketball team and he was on the guys team. He must have caught me looking at  him one too many times, because one afternoon he came over and introduced himself. He had a really cute and funny personality; confident and easy-going. Somehow I got the nerve to give him my number and ask him to call, and to my absolute shock he called later that night!

It turned into a whirlwind romance, which was great... only it happened completely in private. Around campus he never acknowledged me and prefered to come over only at night after being with his friends. I knew in my heart that it wasn't right... that if he wanted to be with me, he would want to introduce me to his friends and go places with me. Every time I brought it up he found a way to end the conversation or make me feel like I was just being a crazy girl.

The lyric "but in candlelight it's hard to see that the water's not that deep" really struck me. The romance of it was truly blissful, but no woman can be with a man if he treats her like a terrible secret.

With the help of my friends I finally got the confidence to refuse his calls and stop seeing him. Because... why should I settle for a Jack when the King is out there somewhere? Every second I waste with a jack is time I could be using to get to know my king. He hasn't shown up yet, but at least I now know that I deserve to be cherished.

Sarah, this is a great song and I thank you for putting the story of so many women into such perfect lyrics. You really got it right! Best of luck to you!
